FLASHBACK // Coup d’Etalage
Two days before Coccodrillo kicks off with our 4th edition of the Coup d’Etalage series, we present a snapshot of the previous three events, in which designers stage their ‘coup’ upon the windows of the Coccodrillo stores in Antwerp’s Schuttershofstraat.

#1: Maison Martin Margiela
The original invitee was the Maison Martin Margiela, a label we have supported from the absolute outset – premiering Mr. Margiela’s personal shoe collection as early as 1984. The MMM parked a Citröen C2V out the front of the store covered in their signature white canvas, and made use of projectors to show small films on the store windows (covered in white for the occasion, just like the sidewalk!).

#2: Dries Van Noten
For our 2nd edition, we invited Mr. Dries Van Noten to interpret our space – with his gradient-printed collection from Spring Summer 2008 installed among a veritable laboratory of desk lamps, microscopes, crystal geodes, magnifying glasses & colourful pastel confectionery.

#3: A.F. Vandevorst
Ann Vandevorst & Filip Arickx took a rather harsh & literal approach to the 3rd ‘coup’, with an aggressive display of the surgical deconstruction of their heavy A.F. Vandevorst winter boots & pumps. Tearing apart their sturdy footwear with forceps & various other metal pincers, the shoes seemed suspended in an eternal state of undoing. X-Ray photography of their designs accompanied the installations, which were carefully arranged on pristine white linen cloths, embroidered with a blood-red “A.F”.
