Balenciaga, in burgundy
In the more classical collection of BALENCIAGA by Nicholas Ghesquiere (which shows every season alongside the defilé styles), Coccodrillo discovered one of our favourites of the season. Combining many of Autumn Winter 2011-12′s top trends – rich colour, patent leather and a deliciously high wedge, this platform loafer style sets a new degree in office chic. The top-stitched detailing highlights the subtle burgundy tone. Worn with a slim trouser or a flirty miniskirt, the right lady can take this shoe from boardroom to boardwalk and back again.
This style is now available in-store at the COCCODRILLO Ladies Boutique, Antwerp.
Blue boots
ANN DEMEULEMEESTER‘s designs are characterised by a certain timeless romanticism, driven by a passion for esoteric references within literature and the arts. The Belgian designer is inspired by historical figures, poets, artists musicians and the raw beauty of youth and nature.
Every season, Ann offers ‘Collection Blanche’, a special selection of archive pieces reproduced from her twenty year history. The ankle boot above is an example from Fall Winter 2011-12, featuring a heavy Cuban heel and distressed leather in a stunning royal blue tint. A slightly pointed toe and a simple side zip ensure that the shoe remains streamlined and simple, with a balance of delicacy and roughness.
This style is now available in-store at the COCCODRILLO Ladies Boutique, Antwerp.
Note: The play of light and shadow in Johannes Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ is subtly reflected in our photograph of Ann’s boots on the street in Antwerp . You can visit this and many other Dutch master paintings at the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, Netherlands.
Mod Amazon

For Autumn Winter 2011-12, Mr. DRIES VAN NOTEN presented an eclectic, mod-ish collection inspired by the Ballets Russes and the stylings of David Bowie. Surrealist prints were collaged with shaggy fur and python appliqué, with a vivid palette of rust, gold, tangerine, indigo, jade and metallic gold. Accessories had a whirling sixties feel, with ankle booties accented with a heavy wooden or perspex heel, with a snub toe in panels of glossy snakeskin, plush turquoise velvet or even mongolian fur.
This particularly decadent bootie (above) features a towering, lacquered wooden block heel and mottled jade python. Wear these with a crisp A-line skirt or shirtdress, in subtle monochrome or a swirling print (to follow this season’s trend to clash prints of opposing colours and sizes).
This style is now available in-store at the COCCODRILLO Ladies Boutique, Antwerp.
Note: Guido Morofico’s spectacular photography book ‘Serpens’ came to mind when we chose this shoe, which features beautiful hyper-real images of snakes. Check it out here.

The passing python parade
In a swingin’ sixties show PRADA showed snakeskin like never before for Autumn Winter 2011-12, scaling down swing coats, panelled across clutch purses and swerving down the calves of trompe l’oeil Mary Jane boots.
COCCODRILLO’s favourites are a pair of suede pumps accented with a curved heel, with python trimming the heel and platform. They are in-store now in black & blue, or a very feminine powder pink. If we were you, we would channel Twiggy and pair this darling style with an A-line minidress and a smokey eye!
A tuxedo triumph
A personal favourite of Coccodrillo’s Eddy Michiels, the ‘Edna’ shoe from Miss TABITHA SIMMONS‘ Fall Winter 2011-12 collection features a severe point, a skinny heel and lace-up with a contrast apron.
This very chic white-on-black combination would pair beautifully with a longline trouser (dramatically flared or slim and cropped) or a figure-hugging pencil skirt and pussybow blouse.
Zanotti’s pony panache
In the window now at Coccodrillo Women’s Boutique, GIUSEPPE ZANOTTI’S half boots in printed pony from his Fall Winter 2011-12 collection are a smashing solution for this summer’s shaky weather forecast.
Pair them with slim denim for a rockstar touch, or contrast with a flowing column skirt for a more bohemian vibe.
