Founded in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent is one of the great fashion names of the 20th century.
The first couture house to introduce the concept of luxury prêt-à-porter in a 1966 collection called ‘Rive Gauche’, Yves Saint Laurent revolutionized the socio-cultural landscape.

Since 2004, the designer Stefano Pilati has carried the exceptional legacy of Yves Saint Laurent with a contemporary twist - through innovative collections that marry elegance, refinement, French chic and timeless style. Combining ethnic inspirations with romantic references from the house archives, today’s YSL captures the opulence of a bygone era, with rich leathers, bold contrasts, sculpted heels and ornate hardware. Styles like the ‘Tribute’ sandal and ‘Trib Too’ pump are future classics.

BOTTEGA VENETA and CÉLINE Resort 2012

In that delightful season-between-seasons that is Resort (pre-spring to some), several of Coccodrillo’s favourite designers have delivered fabulously optimistic collections – each offering a concise, transitional wardrobe for the holiday season. Showing the garments in intimate presentations in New York or simply in lookbook images to the press, Resort collections feed the hardline commercial reality of the industry – but these designers prove that sellable doesn’t equal boring!

At YVES SAINT LAURENT, Stefano Pilati showed anchor motifs and a poppy print on prim, sailor-inspired ensembles – paired with lipstick red or white patent platform Mary-Janes. BOTTEGA VENETA‘s Thomas Maier concerned himself with pairing neutrals and brights with the right blend of utility details and louche silky tailoring. Also at LANVIN, Alber Elbaz went luxe and fluid – pleating, draping and fringing silk or jersey into longline frocks, slinky minidresses in neutrals and soft jewel tones – with a surprising finalé of childrenswear!

Phoebe Philo injected CÉLINE with some unexpected flower-power amidst tuxedo-inspired separates, balancing it all upon white platforms or pointy pumps. She explored multi-coloured leather patchwork across outerwear and accessories, and a fabulous flower print that hit full speed in a 50′s-inspired pantsuit (above). Florals were seen at PETER PILOTTO too, where Christopher de Vos and Peter Pilotto explored jacquards at a microscopic level, imbuing their digi-print wrap dresses with the character of silkscreen. For BALENCIAGA, Nicholas Ghesquiere once again moved forward by looking back, tapping into the house’s heritage for batwing sleeves, cocooning coats and voluminous shorts. The heavier silhouettes were brought firmly into the present with sporty details like the perspex visor, a shot of metallic silk, and winged, peep-toe sandals.

We look forward to seeing some of these shoe designs in Coccodrillo come Christmas!

Le Jardin Majorelle, Marrakech

Yves Saint Laurent's 'Jardin Majorelle', Marrakech

Amidst the bustling, eclectic ambience of the souks & kasbahs of Marrakech stands one of North Africa’s most diverse, abundant gardens – the JARDIN MAJORELLE – a tranquil haven conceived by the artist Jacques Majorelle in 1924. Opened to the public in 1947 and acquired by the fashion designer YVES SAINT LAURENT and his partner PIERRE BERGÉ in 1980, the garden remains a public attraction today – offering a rare glimpse into this rich and intriguing fusion of traditional and European design of the early 20th century.
